Five Top Signs You Are Using a Legitimate Dating Site:

2. The site offers affordable monthly prices rather than per-message charges

3. If you search for reviews of the site on the internet, you find many more good reviews than bad

4. The site takes your security seriously.  It should provide general advice on how to be cautious of internet scams as well as specific examples of scammers, should have all pages secured with SSL, and should be certified PCI compliant.

  1. Is there a main site to consult with to get the real heartbeat as to what is real, sort of like a BBB?

  2. William: There are at least three well-run sites for meeting women in the Philippines. There are at least two well-run free sites for meeting women in the U.S.

I would agree with 2,4, and 5 absolutely. Some legit sites encourage people to get professionally done photos. And some poor sites pay people to write good reviews for them, to mislead potential customers into thinking that the site is quality.

Other ways a site maintains quality (some of these may not be visible). Check IP address to compare to where the person says they’re from. Example: if the person says they live in New York City, but the IP address is from Lagos, Nigeria, assume scam. A few web sites show the country the person last logged in from. Of course, when you travel to the Philippines, that’s what will show as your IP address,

Don’t let people list their email address in their profile. If someone tries to get you to write to a yahoo address from the first letter, that is a warning sign. At some web sites, more than 90% of incoming first emails will do this (scam-friendly sites).

But many (most) dating sites have at least a few scammers. So learn how to spot and avoid them.

  3. Hi William,

My advice for you is to focus on point #3 from our article. Use the main site “” or “” and type in search phrases like “christian filipina scam” and compare the results to what you find when you seach with our competitor’s site names: “filipino cupid scam” “cherry blossoms scam” “dateinasia scam” and so on. Try your own similar searches like “is christian filipina safe” or “is filipino cupid safe” and so on to see what people have to say about our site in comparison to other sites.

There are many, many lists of sites on the internet that list good and bad dating sites and provide “reviews”. However, in our research, most of these sites are actually created to earn a commission for each member they refer to their top recommendations. For this reason, take your time doing the research and find actual comments from real users who have used the sites themselves.

We have always been transparent about the pitfalls and blessings of our site and the process of meeting someone internationally. As you can see, we even have our advice articles here where we welcome comments from every perspective. So what are you waiting for? Call us up at 800 578 1469 today and introduce yourself to our friendly customer service staff.

    Hi Anon,

Sorry to hear that you have been taken for granted. Hindsight is always 20/20 but for the benefit of other readers, we recommend that when you are getting to know someone, you talk about this kind of issue in advance. We recommend that from the beginning long before marriage, you clearly establish your limits for charity. Are you comfortable sending $50 a month to your wife’s family? $100 a month? The Filipino culture and economy does not have a large social security system of taxes and payouts, so there is more responsibility for each family member to look out for each other. But you must set your limits or you will go broke and your relationship will be taken down with the shipwreck. If you had established your limits clearly in advance and stuck to them, you would not be in this position. We pray that you and your wife can reconcile yourselves, take care of yourselves and your child first, and establish a more realistic (and smaller) monthly contribution to her family. Finally, we pray that your extended family will recognize and appreciate your generosity. Until they do, we see no reason for you to feel obliged to support them in any way.

    Hi Thomas,

Thanks for your feedback as well. The only point we would like to add is that you cannot trust IP addresses. Most scammers have a variety of techniques for masking their IP addresses, so even if they are in Nigeria, Ghana, etc, their IP addresses show as being in the US or UK or other countries.

  4. I’m Sorry but once more, No offense intended, After reading the post above, It seems to me that either the writer is not aware that the site is already using SSL Certificate w/strong 256 encryption & has been a PCI compliant or doesn’t know the importance of these, when this post was written on 09/18/12. Because why these are not included on the list.
Also I was wondering why the writer said that the photos of the members are casual, taken by friend or family is the top sign, why when William gave his comment, William was advised to focus on #3 not on #1 & so why #3 is not on #1. By the way, I agree on #s 5,3, 4 & 2. Thanks!

  5. Thanks for your good suggestion. We do agree that security measures are also very important, and we will edit point #4 to make this more clear.
