I grew up in the Chicago suburbs of Glenview, Illinois, and I was born in 1949. Until my retirement, I practiced tax law in the San Diego, California, area. One day in 2018, my wife of 29 years informed me she wanted a divorce, and we divorced. After the divorce, a good friend who was a medical doctor suggested that rather than date American women, I should try a Philippine woman. I was surprised. He said LOTS of his older patients around my age were married to Philippine women and I should seek a woman from the Philippines since they were quite loyal and dedicated to their husbands. Ok, well… I had to do my research to see if this was even possible. I looked up that there were definitely a share of Philippine women who were “gold diggers” and outright thieves. However, the common thread in these horror stories was that the woman was from an urban area and the Philippine dating site did not do any vetting to see if the women were bona fide. My research led me to conclude I needed to find an honest dating website that specializes in just Philippine women, and I needed to find someone who grew up and lived in the very remote countryside of the Philippines. The Philippine dating website was “Christian Filipina” (the Philippines was a former Spanish colony; therefore, female Filipinos refer to themselves as “Filipinas”). The VERY cool thing about the site, Christian Filipina, is each woman has a little Google Map with a pin as to exactly where they are from, making it very easy to locate someone from the “Provinces” (the remote, non-urban parts of the Philippines) and not urban areas. Christian Filipina also seems to do some vetting of the women to see if they are bona fide.

Let me tell you my experience. I signed up for Christian Filipina. I was actually completely honest with my age, and I used recent photos and no embellishment about my past life. One of the questions asked was, ‘What age range do you want your Filipina?’ Well… even though I was born in 1949, I still am attracted to younger women, so I answered, between ages 30 and 60. GEEZ!! Within an hour of logging on for the first time to the Christian Filipina site, I had more than 100 names and photos available of Filipinas, most of whom were in their 30s to early 40s! I quickly found someone who was from a remote corner of the Philippines; she did not have any children and had never been married before. After corresponding with her for a while via WhatsApp, I flew to Manila and paid for her and her mother to fly from Tacloban to Manila so that I could meet her. The meeting went well, and after several years and many trips to the Philippines, we are now in the process of getting the USA Fiancé Visa so I can bring her here to the USA and we can get married.

One or two cultural notes you should be aware of: Philippine society puts a huge burden on women to help contribute to the financial well-being of the family. If you are going to marry a Filipina, she can no longer work and help her family financially. You should be prepared to help her send a sum every month to her family. My suggestion: the average Filipino for the whole country makes only $300 US dollars per month per person! I am going to send $300/mo to my Filipina’s parents. Also, most Filipinos believe ALL foreigners are rich! You may be asked by your Filipina’s family for a “loan” or a gift. I would not recommend it. BUT this culture is very Asian, meaning if you don’t politely and deferentially decline to lend/gift someone money, you could “break someone’s face.” Meaning not a punch in the face, but causing extreme embarrassment to your Filipina.

– Joe, California, United States

My name is Joe S.
